Initially, my intention was to create an artwork to challenge the traditional portrayal of masculinity in society. Inspired by editorial makeup shoots and the work of artist Sophie Derrick, I manipulated with the application of face paint and the acrylic brushstrokes. As Brian, the subject, is a pianist, I wanted also to encapsulate the flow of music; a visualisation of a melody. The motif of graffiti continues in this artwork, as a symbol of rebellion and creativity.
