For this artwork, I focused on traditional oil painting techniques, inspired by the Renaissance era and old masters such as Zorn and Rembrandt. Also a reflection of ordinary school life amidst the Covid19 pandemic, this artwork is a recording of people around me, working towards their future and dreams despite the hardships that come as a sign of the times.
Medium:
Oil and acrylic on collage background
Dimension:
91.44 x 118.11 cm
Year: 2021
The main focus of this piece is not on the portrait, but the collage. Within it are random cutouts from the Sunday times magazine, newspaper clippings, old references and old unfinished works of mine. A seemingly chaotic mixture of distressed paper holds segments of myself and my inner chaos. The name and the graffiti text "disarra(y)" seemed fitting, as the principal of collage is a mishmash of different things- After all, in chaos, there is peace.
Medium:
Acrylic and coffee pods on circular wood panel
Dimension:
83.82 x 83.82 cm
Year: 2021
This is a rare smile that I captured of my best friend Bernard. Built on recycled coffee pods, the ambiguity of the lines and unclear forms show a sense of confusion in the choice of direction for our impending futures. It also serves as a reminder, a show of appreciation; an act of encouragement for my dear friend.
